Denmark Hands Over Vehicles and Equipment to EASF in Nairobi as Part of Exit Strategy
The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) today received two vehicles and a range of Rapid Deployment Kits from the Embassy of Denmark during a handover ceremony held at the EASF Secretariat in Nairobi. The transfer forms part of the Embassy of Denmark’s Midterm Exit Strategy under its ongoing partnership with the EASF, as preparations continue for the conclusion of Denmark’s support in December 2026.
EASF Holds Handover Ceremony for Incoming Force Commander
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) Force Headquarters in Addis Ababa has officially conducted a handover/takeover ceremony marking the transition of the Office of the Force Commander from Brigadier General Getachew Mohammad to Brigadier General Stephen Huria.
Brig. Gen. Getachew, who has served as Force Commander since 2023, expressed his sincere appreciation to the EASF leadership, staff, and the Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia for the support and cooperation accorded to him during his tenure.
Incoming EASF Force Commander Visits Secretariat Ahead of Assumption of Office
Nairobi, Kenya, 29 June 2026 - The Incoming Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) Force Commander, Brig Stephen Maina Huria, on Monday paid a courtesy visit to the EASF Secretariat in Nairobi ahead of officially assuming command at the EASF Force Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on 2 July 2026.

Eastern Africa Standby Force Participates in Regional Counterterrorism Fusion Workshop
The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) participated in the Intelligence and Information Fusion Workshop: Enhancing National Coordination in Eastern Africa, held in Nairobi, Kenya, from 23 to 26 June 2026. The workshop was convened by the Africa Center for Strategic Studies (ACSS) in partnership with the African Union Counter-Terrorism Centre (AUCTC).
EASF and Sudan Reaffirm Commitment to Regional Peace and Security
Nairobi, Kenya - 24th June 2026- The Director of the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) received the Defense Attaché of the Embassy of the Republic of Sudan to Kenya, Major General Magdi Ahmed, during a courtesy visit to the EASF Secretariat in Nairobi.
The meeting provided an opportunity for discussions on matters of mutual interest, including regional peace, security, and cooperation within the Eastern Africa region.

Nairobi, Kenya –24th June 2026 – The Director of the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) today received a delegation from the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye to Kenya during a courtesy visit to the EASF Secretariat in Nairobi.The delegation was led by H.E. Yusuf Ziya Ayrim, Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye to Kenya, and included Defence Attaché Capt. N. Seher Odabas. The visit provided an opportunity for both parties to reaffirm their longstanding partnership and explore avenues for enhanced collaboration in support of regional peace and security.
EASF Conducts SGBV Investigation Training for Trainers in Kigali
The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) has completed a two-week Training of Trainers course on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) investigation in Kigali, Rwanda, held from 8 to 19 June 2026. The programme, supported by the Kingdom of Denmark, brought together more than 20 participants from EASF Member States to strengthen investigative capacity in handling SGBV cases.

Nairobi, Kenya – 11 June 2026 – The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) continued its diplomatic outreach efforts as the Director of EASF, Eastern Africa Standby Force Brig. Gen. Ronald Rwivanga, paid a courtesy visit to H.E. Jabril Ibrahim Abdulle, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia to Kenya, at the Somali Embassy in Nairobi. He was accompanied by senior EASF officials including Mr. Dahir Meraneh, Head of Peace Support Operations Department, Ms. Noowe Kakoono Monalisa, Head of the Civilian Component, Ms. Catherine (EA), and Maj. Abdi Karim, Chief J2/J3.
