EASF Delegation Conducts Successful Verification of Djibouti’s Pledged Capabilities
A delegation from the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF), led by Brigadier (Rtd) Paul Kahuria Njema, Director of EASF, successfully conducted the verification of Djibouti’s pledged military, police, and civilian capabilities. The exercise, which took place from 5 to 6 November 2024, aimed to assess the readiness and effectiveness of Djibouti’s contributions to regional security within the EASF framework. In his opening speech, Brigadier General Taher Ali Mohamed, Chief of Defense Staff of Djibouti, conveyed the greetings and strong support of Djibouti’s Chief of Defense Staff, Army General Zakaria Cheikh Ibrahim. He emphasized the importance of the verification exercise, noting that it reflects Djibouti's unwavering commitment to regional peace and security.

The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) hosted the 16th Annual African Standby Force (ASF) Training Implementation Workshop (TIW) from October 28 to November 1, 2024. The event, held in Nairobi, brought together key stakeholders from across the continent and beyond to discuss the theme “Leveraging Technology in Enhancing the Effectiveness of Peace Support Operations (PSO) Training."
EASF Honors Major Jude Raoul at Farewell Ceremony in Addis Ababa
A special sendoff ceremony was held on Tuesday, October 29, to honor Major Jude Raoul, who has completed two years of distinguished service as Chief of Administration and Finance at the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. In his farewell remarks, EASF Chief of staff log base Col. Julien Rwangaramble praised Major Raoul for his exceptional contributions during his tenure.
Youth for Peace Seminar Concludes with Environmental Commitment in Mogadishu, Somalia
The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) successfully concluded its Youth for Peace seminar focused on peace and environmental conservation from October 28 to 30, 2024. The event culminated in a tree-planting initiative, where participants planted 50 trees, symbolizing their commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development. The closing ceremony featured prominent figures, including Mr. Ali Adan Hassan, Acting Director General of the Ministry of Defence, and Admiral Abdi Warsame Osman, Navy Commander. Mr. Ali Adan welcomed the EASF team, expressing Somalia’s readiness to host future EASF activities and highlighting the crucial role of youth in fostering peace and development in the region.
EASF Concludes Course on Children and Armed Conflict Course
The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) has successfully concluded a Children and Armed Conflict Course aimed at enhancing member states' capabilities to address the urgent issue of children affected by armed conflict. The course, which took place from October 14 to October 25, 2024, attracted military, police, and civilian participants from ten EASF member states. Held at the United Nations Regional Service Centre in Entebbe, the course focused on deepening participants' understanding of conflict dynamics and their impact on children, while fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing among attendees.
Youth for Peace Seminar Kicks Off in Mogadishu, Somalia
The Youth for Peace Seminar, focusing on peace and environmental conservation, began on October 28, 2024, and will run for three days in the Somali capital. This event brings together 60 youth participants from Eastern African Standby Force (EASF) member states and the host nation, Somalia. EASF Air, Land, and Maritime Movement Planning Course Launched in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
The Air, Land, and Maritime Movement Planning Course commenced on Monday, October 21, 2024, at the Logistics Base Training Centre. Funded by the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA), the course is a collaborative effort between APSA and the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF). The two-week program was officially inaugurated by Colonel Getu Taye, Director of the International Peace Support Training Institute at the Ethiopian Ministry of Defense. In his opening remarks, Col. Taye emphasized the critical importance of movement capability for commanders, noting that it is an essential aspect of their command responsibilities.
EASF Concluded AUMEOM Syllabus Review Workshop in Nairobi
Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) organized the African Union Military Experts on Mission (AUMEOM) Syllabus Review Workshop, which began on October 21, 2024 and concluded on October 25, 2024, at the International Peace Support Training Center in Karen, Nairobi. The workshop aimed at evaluating the existing AUMEOM syllabus, identify gaps, and develop a comprehensive training curriculum to effectively address the needs of AU/EASF peace support operations.
