EASF Launches Elections' Observations' Mission to Comoros

The Eastern Africa Standby Force conducted the inaugural ceremony of it's Elections' Observations' Mission to the Union of Comoros on Wednesday 20th March 2019 in the capital city, Moroni, Comoros.

The EASF deployment in the Union of Comoros is headed by the former Burundi Minister for Defence, Lt Gen. (RTD) Germaine Niyoyankana assisted by the Deputy Head of Mission, Mr. Steve Lalande. The EASF Director, Dr. Abdillahi Omar Bouh, is personally on the ground to oversee and coordinate diverse tasks to be performed by the elections' observations' team.

The EASF contingent will cover both Presidential and Gubernatorial elections' observations' based on relevant provisions of the AU African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance of 2012 (ACDEG), the OAU/ AU Declaration of on the Principles Governing Democratic Elections in Africa and other relevant international instruments on elections' observations.

Eight out of ten EASF Member States were able to avail the critical number of seasoned professionals from diverse backgrounds to undertake this task.

The Mission’s Secretariat is based at Retaj Hotel in Moroni, Comoros.
