EASF Holds Handover Ceremony for Incoming Force Commander
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) Force Headquarters in Addis Ababa has officially conducted a handover/takeover ceremony marking the transition of the Office of the Force Commander from Brigadier General Getachew Mohammad to Brigadier General Stephen Huria.
Brig. Gen. Getachew, who has served as Force Commander since 2023, expressed his sincere appreciation to the EASF leadership, staff, and the Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia for the support and cooperation accorded to him during his tenure.
He commended the commitment and professionalism demonstrated by EASF personnel, noting that their collective efforts had contributed significantly to the achievement of the Force Headquarters' mandate.
Upon assuming office, Brig. Gen. Huria expressed his gratitude for the trust and confidence placed in him and reaffirmed his commitment to serving the EASF with dedication, integrity, and professionalism. He called upon all personnel to continue working together in unity and teamwork to advance the organization's mission of promoting peace, security, and stability across the Eastern Africa region.
Presiding over the ceremony, the EASF Director, Brigadier General Ronald Rwivanga, commended Brig. Gen. Getachew for his exemplary leadership, unwavering dedication, and distinguished service to the organization. He welcomed Brig. Gen. Huria to his new appointment and assured him of the Directorate's full support in the discharge of his responsibilities. Brig. Gen. Rwivanga expressed confidence that the incoming Force Commander would uphold the highest standards of professionalism and further strengthen the operational readiness of the EASF.
The ceremony was attended by personnel from the EASF Force Headquarters in Addis Ababa, while staff from the EASF Secretariat joined virtually.
