Enhancing Peace and Security in the Eastern Africa Region

Integrated Mission Planning Course Concludes

The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) the two weeks Integrated Mission Planning Course (IMPC) which started on 8th July 2019 came to an end on Friday 19th July 2019 at the Kenya Commercial Bank Leadership Centre in Nairobi, Kenya.

The IMPC aimed to increase the number of individuals, drawn from the three main components of EASF, namely Military, Police and Civilian from across all ten Member States that are qualified to operate as Staff Officers at either the Mission or Force Headquarters level. It also sought to enhance the operational outcome in respect of integrated planning at either Mission or Force level in the execution of complex Peace Support Operations in an EASF context.

During the closing ceremony, the EASF Director Dr Abdillahi Omar Bouh took the opportunity to express his special thanks to EASF Member States for honoring the invitation and sending the participants to the course. Dr. Bouh underscored the fact that the course was rolled out at a time that EASF is the African Union's Standby Force from July to December 2019. "You have learnt the Operational Planning Process, the doctrine and analytical tools that will allow you to operate as Staff officers within an integrated Mission or Force HQs level", he said.

"The Military, Police and Civilian Components serve different but complimenting roles. This course has therefore enabled you to understand and appreciate each other’s roles and more importantly, to be able to coordinate such that all components are able to efficiently, effectively and timely play their roles or outputs related to an outcome at any mission", the Director added.

Dr. Bouh recognized and appreciated the Friends and Partners of the organization particularly the United Kingdom and the Nordic Countries for their continued support which contributed to the overall success of the IMPC.
